Nice piece Sean. I too am a JP fan and would prefer he stay, but it sounds as if the team and player have agreed its best for him to get a fresh start somewhere else. Rumored price is a late 2nd or early 3rd.

I’m not a fan. His early season numbers were when the oilers were on a lucky unsustainable streak and he got big minutes with the big boys. When Kane arrived he didn’t get the gravy. I don’t see the defensive juggernaut you do. I saw him all over the ice out of position a lot.

He’s going to be gone. And I doubt it’s going to be one of those situations where we see former oilers flourish elsewhere. He’s a serviceable middle 6 winger. That’s it. And he’s weird. Not a bad thing but he just doesn’t seem to fit with the group.

JP would be a good project for the Kracken. Put him and Barrie together for Soucy.

With rumours swirling about the senators interest in JP I wonder if there is a trade fit for both teams. We know brown wants out of ottawa. Comparable numbers & both have the upside of a breakout player. If the rumours the the sens could have interest in kassian as well I wonder if a JP & kassian to the Sens for brown & a pick could happen. The cap hit would almost even itself out.

Great blog.

Unsurprising if we trade a useful Puljujarvi and can't assess our players well enough.

Keith and Kassian desperately need to be traded well before a good young player like Puljujarvi.

Oh, really? Then hey, maybe Philly would be a good trade spot. We love wonky middle 6 players who are having trouble adapting. Our roster is full of ‘em. He can join the club with our other 8 3rd liners. He’ll fit right in by not fitting in at all.

After Puljujarvi the RW depth chart sucks.
Sadly, the Oilers love to bleed talent and never win when trading.

Jesse reminds me of Magnus Paajarvi. At times he can look put together and string together some decent games. But he often falls back into old trends either being invisible or out of position. I get that statistics dont lie, but they sure feel drastically different than what I am seeing watching him play. Yammer maybe streaky, but you hardly see him lacking effort on the forecheck or engaging on plays. He can be a pest to play against as hes strong on the stick check.

"Why can't we find quality middle forward, especially for cheap"

"Let's just try and try Jesse Puljujarvi for not even a first. I wonder why all 31 teams are calling about it him... doesn't matter, he didn't score enough."

This front office is a (frank)ing joke.

Drafting four first overalls in the short span that they did really (frank)ed them over.

It seems that player development has flown out the window, and the only player that can help the team is a high pick that can translate their game immediately.

Draisaitl and McDavid carrying the team to the WCF hid so many holes. I wonder if them losing to the Kings would've got Holland and Nicholson fired.

I am also in this camp, I also don't see the value in this guy, big, clumsy, always chasing, doesn't seem to finish easy goals when we really need them, and yes...he's a little weird! hahahaha

Just another in a long list of of 1st round selections that have either been total busts or barely provided more than a handful of serviceable years before being shipped off for what turned out to be nothing.
Sad that MPS, Petry, Yak, Dubnyk,Eherle, JP and Klefbom make the Taylor Hall look like an okay deal ( ok not really but at least there’s 10 years of a hockey player in there).

Ah well, all that bed poopting ultimately resulted in Leon and Connor, I guess.

You’re not wrong for once in your miserable life, but your last paragraph is dumb if you would rather we got beat in the first round of it meant Holland being turfed.

Mac T is a good Hockey man. He made some desperation moves that hurt us but made a few good moves. He was the wrong GM a at that stage of the rebuild but I would have a use for him in a Hockey Organization.
Still the 2nd best coach in Oilers history behind Sather. Muckler a close 3rd.

It depends what they do this off season. If they continue to make stupid moves (i.e trading Puljujarvi, taking on big contract of aging vets). A part of me wonder if on bad year finally gets them to change their front office and move in the direction that all other teams have.
